On Thursday, June 29, 2000, the 4th Conference on the Fraudulent and Illegal Operations of the Federal Income Tax will be held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., from 9:00 am to 5:00 PM, sponsored by the We The People Foundation for Constitutional Education.

The June 29th conference was originally scheduled as a debate between experts designated by the leaders of the two houses of Congress and the White House representing the government side vs. a panel of experts invited by the We The People Foundation. The two sides were finally to meet in a head-to-head debate on several issues concerning the unconstitutional and illegal operations of the federal income tax system and the IRS, a debate that had not occurred in three previous conferences over the past year, due to the government's failure to show up. However, the government reneged on assurances made last April to send people to participate in the June 29th conference to refute allegations of fraud, deception, and hoax that have been made by numerous researchers from across the country in recent years. The government decided not to participate in the conference after all. Chairman Schulz was told over the telephone by Jason Furman from the White House that, "The legality of the income tax is not a high priority item at the White House, and we won't be sending anyone to the conference." Congressional officials also failed to follow through, and are declining the debate. They must be very busy and can't spare a single person. However, this is the fourth time, and we've now reached the point where the evasion must be regarded as an admission.

If the government had valid rejoinders to the allegations, it should have been a simple matter to send someone over to the press club to shoot down the researchers, especially at the very first Symposium. What better way to lay all this to rest than for government experts to humiliate and embarrass the researchers on national TV by pointing out their errors for everyone to see?

The Foundation determined to conduct the conference anyway, and to invite instead a number of prominent individuals who have spoken out publicly about the illegality of the federal income tax. Whitey Harrell of Illinois, accompanied by a key juror, will speak about a recent and very significant case of jury nullification in which he was acquitted of four failure-to-file charges because there was a lack of demonstrable evidence that there is any law or regulation that requires it. In addition, three employers (Dave Bosset from Florida, Dick Simkanin from Texas, and Nick Jesson from California) who have stopped withholding taxes from their workers will tell their stories and review their legal arguments. Also, several of the researchers will discuss their work and the government's reaction to it: Joe Banister, Larry Becraft, Bill Benson, Bill Conklin and Devvy Kidd. We are especially pleased to have as our luncheon speaker Mr. Edwin Vieira, a graduate of Harvard College, the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and Harvard Law School. He is an attorney specializing in constitutional law. He is the author of PIECES OF EIGHT: THE MONETARY POWERS AND DISABILITIES OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION (1983).
